Alexandra Champalimaud

Alexandra founded the firm in Montreal, Canada and quickly established a reputation for developing bespoke designs of the highest caliber. Alexandra completed her design training at the Espirito Santo Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal . Born and raised in Portugal, Alexandra received her early education in Switzerland and England. 

Alexandra brings a dynamic intellectual curiosity and an absence of pretense to her work. Drawing upon a wealth of personal experiences and professional commissions throughout Europe, Africa, Asia and South America, her work is known for subtle references unique to her multi-faceted vantage point. With a unique talent for the application of color, pattern, texture and a seasoned understanding of the foundations and principals of classic design Alexandra remains an uncompromising aesthete respectful of the needs of her clients and the cultural context of each project.

Whilst in Montreal, Alexandra served on the board of the Commissions des Biens Culturels du Québec and was an active member of Heritage Montreal. She is presently a member of the Network for Executive Women in Hospitality, the International Interior Design Association and is a past vice-president of the US-Portugal Chamber of Commerce 

In 2012 Alexandra was inducted into the Interior Design Hall of Fame, in 2000 she was awarded the Platinum Circle for Lifetime Achievement by Hospitality Design magazine and was honored in 2009 by Interior Design and Hotels magazines, as the Interior Designer of the Year. 

Alexandra drives the creative process on all of the firm's projects and oversees the overall relationship with clients.

2017 Ed Bakos

Ed Bakos AIA, IIDA

Managing Director & Partner

Ed Bakos joined Champalimaud in December 2012 as Managing Director. Mr. Bakos' extensive luxury hospitality and restaurant experience, spanning 26 years, has positioned him as a leader in the design industry.

Ed is recognized for his ability to collaborate with high profile clients on complex projects to create innovative and engaging guest experiences. Past projects have included the first W Hotel, the Belvedere Hotel in Mykonos, the Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, and the Andaz Wall Street. Ed served as Principal in charge of interior design for the Marina Bay Sands Project in Singapore.

In addition to his hospitality experience, Ed has also completed numerous signature restaurants and award winning bars including the Cosmopolitan's Chandelier Bar, Jaleo Restaurant, and the Talon Club as well as Langham Chicago's new Travelle Restaurant. Other notable restaurants include Bobby Flay Steak in Atlantic City, The National and Town for chef Geoffrey Zakarian in New York, Wall and Water at the Andaz Wall Street, and Print Restaurant and Press Lounge at the Ink 48 hotel in Manhattan.

Over the course of his career, Ed's work has been the recipient of numerous design awards, including a Presidential Design Award for his role in the renovation of the Lower Concourse of New York's Grand Central Terminal, several Gold Key Awards, and a Boutique Design Award for Best Hotel in 2010. He was a member of the Think Team for the World Trade Center redevelopment and has given numerous lectures about his work.

A graduate of Cornell University with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Masters in Architecture from Harvard University, Mr. Bakos worked for several years overseas teaching architecture at Cornell University's Rome Program and at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. Ed returned to New York to join Rockwell Group, where he served as Principal and Studio Leader for 18 years.


2017 Winston Kong

Winston Kong


Winston Kong joined Champalimaud in 1995 as an Architectural Designer and rapidly proved himself to be a strong leader and gifted designer valued by both the firm and its clientele. From 2005 to 2008, Winston has overseen the design and completion of a number of international award-winning projects including The Astor Hotel in Tianjin and the Berkeley in London, to name a few.

One of Winston's most celebrated accomplishments at Champalimaud was the transformation of Beacon Hill's 19th Century Charles Street Jail into what is now the Liberty Hotel (Boston, MA), which garnered two Gold Key Awards - Grand for Best Hotel Design and Best Hotel Lobby - in 2008.

Prior to joining Champalimaud, Winston worked on high-end residential design projects at Marcelle Aizenstat Studio Interiors in Miami, Florida and served as a Junior Architect at Raphael Viñoly Architects.

Winston graduated from the Pratt Institute with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and completed a multidisciplinary summer studio program at the University of Copenhagen where he studied architecture, interior design and industrial design.

Jon Kastl


Jon, LEED AP, brings to his role as Principal at Champalimaud over 20 years of experience in Hospitality, Residential and Restaurant design, as well as a resume populated by some of the world's most exclusive hotel properties.

Jon establishes a working process for every project that allows the design to both
meet and exceed expectations. Through clear communication with the client and keen
recognition of the characterisitics that make a property special, Jon is able totransform
an ambitious design vision into a luxurious reality that succeeds on both experiential
and operational levels.

Since joining Champalimaud in 2009, Jon has led design teams for several five star
properties including: The Island House in Nassau, Bahamas; The Gainsborough Hotel
in Bath, England; The Raffles Hotel in Singapore; The Waldorf-Astoria in New York City
and in Chengdu, China; Le Richmond in Geneva, Switzerland; The Greenleaf Niseko
Village in Niseko, Japan; amd residences at 15 Central Park West in New York City.

One of Jon’s most notable projects, the legendary Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles, has received multiple awards for its thoughtful treatment of exisitng structures and innovative approach to a collection of new suites.

Jon holds a Bachelor of Science in Design from the University of Cincinnati’s acclaimed
College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning.

2017 Thomas Johnson

Thomas Johnson

Director of Development

Thomas Johnson has joined the growing Champalimaud team as Director of Development as of 2014. He has extensive international experience in design and development with a particular focus on resorts and exclusive residential projects. His expertise is complimented by a long history in hospitality design and he has firsthand knowledge of how to structure and deliver services across the globe.

His previous design experience includes planning and design for residential and luxury resorts in North America, Europe, Middle East, India, and throughout Asia.

Thomas is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and events. He travels extensively reaching out to new and existing clients as part of his role at Champalimaud.


2019 Chuck Wood

Chuck Wood

Commercial Director

Chuck brings to Champalimaud over 30 years of uniquely diverse experience in the management of architecture, design and technology companies, with a particular focus on luxury, hospitality and international operations. He brings extensive international experience in the hospitality sector, having worked in close collaboration with hotel owners, operators, architects, and design consultants to successfully deliver projects in the US, Asian, European, Indian and Middle Eastern markets.

Prior to joining Champalimaud, Chuck was the Managing Director, EMEA + Asia for Rockwell Group, responsible for helping to develop the firm’s international strategy, including the establishment of their Madrid, Shanghai and Dubai offices. At Rockwell, Chuck focused on project delivery, business operations, mentoring creative leadership, key client management and developing new international business opportunities, as well as acting as a consultant to the firm›s hospitality clients in the areas of branding and strategy. Chuck originally joined Rockwell Group in 2004 as Director of Operations.

Earlier in his career Chuck was the Chief Technology Officer and SVP of Global Production for KPE, a premier provider of digital interactive solutions for luxury, media and entertainment clients, including Sony.com, Polo.com, Beauty.com, Six Flags, CBS, ABC, TBS, Mandalay Bay, Bluefly.com, AOL Time Warner, Princess Cruises, and The Real Deal. Chuck also spent 12 years as Partner and Executive Vice President with Meader Associates, Inc., a general contractor specializing in luxury retail and private residential construction in the New York metropolitan area.

Chuck is a graduate of Oberlin College with degrees in Mathematics and Music.


2017 Elisabeth Rogoff

Elisabeth Rogoff


Elisabeth joined Champalimaud as a Senior Designer in 2006, where her art direction and knowledge of FF&E has been instrumental in creating designs that represent the firm's distinct aesthetic.

Elisabeth has led some of Champalimaud's most recognized hospitality projects to date including the Hotel Bel-Air, Waldorf Astoria, St. Regis Jakarta, Topping Rose House, and the New York Palace Hotel.

Prior to joining Champalimaud, Elisabeth collaborated on high-end residential projects at Selldorf Architects, and then served as a Senior Designer at Skidmore Owens & Merrill (SOM) where she helmed projects including the Messilah Beach Hotel and Spa (Kuwait), Pritzker Hyatt Offices (Chicago, IL) and the marketing floor at 7 World Trade Center (New York, NY). Earlier, Elisabeth participated in the design of the Little Dixie Bay Hotel (Virginia Gorda, B.V.I), The Mansion on Turtle Creek (Dallas), and Las Ventanas al Paraiso Spa (Los Cabos, Mexico) over the course of five years at Vision Design Dallas. 

Elisabeth earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology & English from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994, and later completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from the American Intercontinental University (Atlanta) in 1996.

Anna Beeber


Anna Beeber joined Champalimaud in 2010.  She creates thoughtful and functional designs for Champalimaud’s hospitality and private sectors and takes pride in her ability to transform spaces by bringing ideas and inspirations to life.  Anna’s scope of expertise spans from product design, interior design, and construction management, which she has applied to notable assignments including New York’s iconic hotels The Carlyle and The Waldorf Astoria as well as a series of luxury residential projects. 

Anna’s ability to connect with our clients and provide unique experiences has landed her the opportunity to design luxury residences from the sunny beaches of the Bahamas to the cobblestone streets of London. Internally, Anna collaborates closely with founder Alexandra Champalimaud on the Champalimaud Collection including private label furniture, fabrics and trims available at Holland & Sherry and rugs for The Rug Company. 

Raised in Alaska, Ms. Beeber graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in Sociology and went on to earn her post-graduate degree in Architectural Interior Design from the prestigious Inchbald School of Design in London.

During Robert’s career, projects with a focus on food, retail and hospitality have been his passion. Whether it’s working with award winning chefs or luxury brands, Robert strives to create designs that celebrate place-making and innovation.

Robert joined Champalimaud in 2016 after an accomplished tenure at the Related Companies. As a senior member of Related’s team his responsibilities included overseeing the design creation and development of projects initiated within their mixed-use retail business unit. While at Related, Robert acted as the Owner’s design manager and primary client representative for The Shops at Hudson Yards; a 1 million square foot retail center located within the historic Hudson Yards development.

Previous to his work at Related Robert was a senior member at the Rockwell Group and was the design-lead and site representative for the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Resort.

Robert brings over 20 years of professional experience to his role of Principal at Champalimaud. As a leader he has successfully mentored and managed teams of architects and designers on high profile projects world-wide. His diverse experiences, expertise, and knowledge lend wisdom to every project he spearheads.

Robert received a Masters of Architecture from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University.

From managing large-scale luxury projects to designing custom furniture, Alan’s
exceptional design talents and expertise range across a wide spectrum. He brings
over a decade of experience to five-star projects for clients such as The Four Seasons
and The Dorchester, using design to craft visual stories and memorable experiences. A Senior Associate who draws inspiration from local cultures, Alan has an uncommon ability to link historical context with today’s lifestyle.

Upon meeting Alexandra Champalimaud, Alan was deeply inspired by her passion
for carrying the stories of landmark properties into the future. He initially joined the
firm in 2002 and returned again in 2012, following work with Cheryl Rowley Design
in Los Angeles, Cheng Meng Furniture, and Tony Chi & Associates in New York. At
Champalimaud, Alan has led the suite redesign at New York’s Plaza Hotel and at The
Dorchester Hotel in London. He has also worked on the Raffles Hotel renovation in
Singapore, and the Waldorf Chengdu in China as well as the Carlyle Hotel in New
York City and The Four Seasons in Toronto. For the Loews New Orleans Hotel, one
Alan’s most acclaimed accomplishments to-date at Champalimaud, he translated the
distinctive elements of New Orleans’ rich architectural heritage into a fresh and modern
identity for the luxury property.

Originally from Panama, Alan earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from
the Fashion Institute of Technology and studied design at Parsons School of Design and the School of Visual Arts.

Jun Chun is a distinguished interior designer and tastemaker best known for his enchanting take on interiors and the luxury lifestyle. Jun’s design expertise and proficiency with architectural detailing combine effortlessly with his skills as a lead designer for Champalimaud. He sets a high standard for quality at every stage of a project from proposal and pricing through design and execution. Jun’s most recent work includes five star hotel properties and residential projects such as Chatham Bars Inn in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Biwako Takashima Resort in Shiga, Japan and a private residence in London, UK. 

Mediating between architectural and decorative details, Jun produces an integrated, seamless product, and is skilled at encouraging a high level of workmanship from the contractors, millworkers, and other trades with whom he works during the entire project process. Jun has designed high-end residential projects throughout the United States and Asia including the Galleria in Dalian, China, CA Ventures Luxurious Apartments and the Park Tower Condominiums in Chicago, Illinois. 

A Korean native, Jun studied architecture at Pratt Institute in New York City and received his Bachelor of Interior Architecture from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. He is fluent in Korean.

Courtney possesses a strong background in Interior Architecture, Interior Design and Project Management and is a key member in each residential and hospitality project the firm undertakes. She adds a personal perspective through her innate understanding of the design process and her keen attention to detail. Courtney is well versed in complex schedules and project requirements, which allows for her team to deliver on budget and on time.

Since joining Champalimaud, Courtney has succesfully lead projects from concept to completion through maintaining excellent communication and relationships with clients. Courtney’s work is instilled with the design ethos of the firm - understated elegance executed through quality craftsmanship and careful selection of refined materials.
Courtney earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Auburn University.

2017 Sang Wook Oh

Sang Wook Oh


Sang Wook Oh is an expert draftsman with extensive knowledge of architectural standards, from general space and millwork design to mechanical systems to building codes. He specializes in schematic preparation, construction documentation and design development for hotel and residential renovations as well as new construction projects.

He joined the firm in 2006 with 11 years of experience in architectural design, and loves working in a range of architectural styles alongside the diverse and highly experienced team at Champalimaud. 

Originally from Korea, Sang received a Bachelor of Engineering in Interior Architecture from Gachon University and earned a Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA.

Sang has worked on a variety of international projects, with Champlimaud, including The Hilton Guiyang (PR China), the Penthouse renovation at The Fairmont San Francisco, the St. Regis Beijing (PR China), The Carlyle Hotel (New York), the Green Leaf Niseko Village (Japan) and the White Elephant Hotel (Nantucket, MA.)

2017 Justyna KH

Justyna Kanigowska-Hernandez


Justyna joined Champalimaud with over 8 years of luxury single family residential experience in 2014. She possesses a strong background in interior architecture, interior design, project management, making her an integral part of the team. Her knowledge and understanding of all phases of the project delivery successfully leads each initiative from concept to completion. 

Through her years as a designer, Justyna has gained in depth experience with design presentation and representation, organization and assembling drawing sets in all phases, consultant coordination, technical detailing, material research, code analysis and construction administration. Justyna has recently completed construction documents for a series of Ultra-luxury residences designed by Champalimaud atop Hong Kong’s Peak.   The property is of the highest level of finish, and includes both Interior Architecture and furnishings.

Prior to her time at Champalimaud, Justyna was as an interior designer at J.P. Molyneux Studio where she worked on exclusive residential projects in the U.S., Mexico, Asia and Europe. 

Justyna holds a Master of Science from Pratt Institute and recently received her NCIDQ in Spring 2015.
